Tooele County is home to a fascinating historical landmark, the Grantsville Fort, which was constructed by early settlers as a means of protection from local Native Americans. The fort was built using a combination of hard-packed dirt, rock, and adobe construction materials to create walls that were five feet wide at the bottom and 12-feet high on the north and west sides.
Over the years, the Grantsville Fort served as a vital hub of protection for the local community, providing safety and security in a challenging and unpredictable environment. Today, a monument marks the site where the fort was located, which sits beside the old First Ward Church Building.
